Reflection

Preserved bodies at a museum in Mumbai
As I researched this genocide, I realized how brutal people could be about control. The Holocaust was different in the sense that the Nazis were discriminating against the Jews because they wanted a master race to rule. The Hutus persecuted the minority ethnic group, the Tutsis, for control of Rwanda. The Rwandan genocide was especially violent due to the rage and frustration of the Hutus. The Hutus would torture, exile, kidnap and even rape their victims. There are stories from survivors about how brutal and malicious these people were. There were so many harmful outcomes of this genocide.
I was surprised that this genocide isn’t more common. Many people are aware of the Holocaust. It is studied in most schools and there are numerous books written on it. However the Rwandan genocide is not as well known as the Holocaust. It is thought that racism is one of the reasons that this genocide is uncommon among most people. Some believe that it would be very memorable if it had been a genocide of Europeans or Americans. Even though they are very similar, the Rwandan genocide is not recognized by many people.
